I know everyone realizes that disney amvs are a gold mine but as someone who has been collecting them for years I am telling you right now: the ones that blow up on tumblr are only the absolute tip of the iceberg.
here’s some personal favorites of mine. synopsis included.
keep in mind that none of these are parody videos. they’re all 100% serious I promise you
I’m legitimately so tired of the Disney remakes. Like I can’t even muster up enough energy to be mad about it, I just truly do not care. There hasn’t been one remake I felt compelled to see in theaters, and only a few that I bothered to watch on Netflix. The result is always either no better or actively worse than the original, and if you like watching them that’s fine, but I’m sick to death of the argument that we need these endless remakes so that “a new generation can enjoy the stories”. What planet are you one where you can’t watch a movie more than once? The stories are readily available. I watched plenty of movies as a kid that came out before I was born, there’s literally nothing stopping you.
Also, it used to be when they made a remake they at least had the decency to remake 40+ year old films; now they’re remaking things that came out just a few decades ago and adding practically nothing.
I guess I really don’t see what the appeal is or why they make so much money. I mean I get nostalgia but if I feel nostalgic for an old movie I’ll just… watch that movie.
It’s just nostalgia baiting, and a gradually poorer attempt with each remake. These films will never ground-breaking, or even better than the original if they keep going with the classics. It’s a paradox, in a way: the only movies they can remake are the classics, but the classics will always be superior because these remakes have to be compared to them, thus making them weaker by default. Lion King is especially pointless, because the talking CGI animal craze died a long time ago, and no amount of refinement in computer technology will make them any way more impressive than the illustrated animated works. Simply this is because a realistic portrayal takes away the creative freedom that animation is allowed. Plus they already took out one of the most memorable songs in the original – “Be prepared” – so there goes the chance of seeing that done, even if I wanted to.
Though, I agree with the sentiment: I can’t even get mad myself. I’m just unsurprised and bored by all of this. At this point, I wouldn’t even care if they added some pointless changes or tried to be “controversial” like they did with Beauty and the Beast. I don’t personally know anyone who is at all excited, and other than maybe seeing a live-action remake there’s nothing I see that is meant to be appealing.
It’s the same feeling I have with these remakes of 90′s and 00′s TV shows.
It’s just nostalgia baiting and “people who are both easily impressed/obsessive fans/54 year olds” who are gonna flock to see this.
You know what they should remake if they absolutely have to? The Disney “failures”
The Black Cauldron
Atlantis
Treasure Planet
Just to name a few. Why remake something that was already successful?
I would fucking kill someone for a live-action version of The Black Cauldron
Those other two though? Disney will never touch those, because Disney seems to think very little of sci-fi. God though, can you imagine either of those films in live-action? They’d look like Avatar-levels of good
me in 2034 watching Lobot: a Star Wars Story on Google Netflix Premium Prime and Anakin’s mom is revealed to be alive and a sith and the Emperor’s lover
me in 2089 as Star Wars Episode XLIII: Mecha-Chewbacca vs. Wolverine is pumped directly into my veins after I paid 30 Disney Tokens in order to sleep for the night
Everything I’ve seen from Wreck-It Ralph 2 seems to have been designed to cater to that one demographic.
You know the one. The Twitter types who get 40k retweets for sharing a mildly amusing clip from the trailer with the caption “I C O N I C 🌟”. Hopefully it’s just the Princess scene and the rest of the film actually has a decent amount of substance to justify its existence.
god fucking damn it
i’ve never seen those kinds of people so perfectly summed up before
